Resources for Groups
Need a Presentation at Your Meeting?
Here’s a video you have my permission to exhibit at society (genealogical and historical) and user group meetings. In it I demonstrate three of the top genealogy programs for the Mac: iFamily for Leopard, MacFamilyTree, and Reunion for Mac.
The presentation is 48 minutes and 47 seconds long. The file is 848.5 MB, so you’ll need a high speed connection to download it. Please don’t stream it from this website; download it and put it on a thumb drive for the presentation.
Macintosh Genealogy Software Comparison Sheet
This PDF file is a comparison of six of the top Macintosh genealogy applications (iFamily for Leopard, Heredis Mac X.2, MacFamilyTree, ohmiGene, PAW2X, and Reunion) condensed into a table.
Need Income?
How about selling my video screen cast CDs at your meetings and keeping almost all the profits? I’ll make the CD image files available for you to download and burn as many as you need. Send me one dollar for each CD you sell. You pick your profit by setting the selling price at whatever you like. Yes, I’ll cannibalize my CD sales, but I’m okay with that if genealogy societies and Mac user groups benefit from it.

Ben, are your videos the same as podcasts? Where does one find them? Can info from Ancestry.com be downloaded into Reunion-9? Hope all is well. Did you decide to stay with us after-all? Susan
Hello,
I was just listening to the latest Genealogy Gems podcast and a program called “Transcript 2.3″ was mentioned. (http://www.jacobboerema.nl/en/Freeware.htm) I was wondering if you knew of a similar program that would be compatible with a Mac.
Thank you,
Laura
As a follow on to Susan’s comment concerning Ancestry.com to Reunion transfers: I am trying to decide whether to invest in Reunion or continue to just use Ancestry.com for my software. I have read about some of the limitation of the GEDCOM 5.5 standard (e.g. inability to transfer pictures, date formats). Do you have a recommendations or sources to further my research before making this decision?
Thanks,
Cheers,
Dave
Hi Ben: A good video about managing photos for Reunion 9.0. I used Legacey 7.0 on my PC and recently, I switched to Reunion 9.0 on the iMac. When I exported my GEDCOM file from Legacy and imported it into Reunion 9.0, it worked well. However, all the photos that are included in the EVENTS on my tree are not showing (I can see the name of the file.jpg but not the photo).
I have a big (1 GB) folder that has all the pictures. How can I move this file so that Reunion picks up all the EVENT photos without having to do it one by one?
Thanks.
